Giving to Cudeca – Why it’s important to us at Alarma Universal

As a successful business on the Costa del Sol, we feel that it is incredibly important to give back to our community. One particular charity we wanted to share with you today is the Cudeca Hospice. Since 2005, we’ve proudly supported this charity as it is an important cause that helps more people than you probably realise.

Every little helps

Alarma Universal’s social responsibility policy is to provide long term assistance, rather than a one-off payment. With this in mind, our business donates 1 Euro to the charity from every connection fee. Cudeca needs support from the whole community to be able to cover the annual 3€ million cost of helping over 1,100 people each and every year.

The support of local businesses is vital, whether this is achieved by hosting events, charity shop donations – as is the case with Alarma Universal - legacies, grants or via the contracts in place with the Junta de Andalucia. The method is not important as long as the funds are raised to help sustain the vital services provided by Cudeca.

About Cudeca Hospice

Cudeca’s mission is to relieve, care for and accompany patients and their families with compassion and dignity until the very end. The charity was launched by a very courageous woman named Joan Hunt who decided to dedicate her life to improving care for patients with cancer.

Joan’s husband died of cancer and Cudeca was a concept that would see to improving the care of patients suffering from cancer and other advanced illnesses. The Hospice also provides different levels of care for the families in Malaga province. Joan shared her idea with Doctor Marisa Martin, who had attended to her husband.

In collaboration with a group of like-minded friends, Joan launched the Cudeca Hospice in 1992. In its early days patients were attended in their own homes. In 2005, team’s dedication and hard work allowed them to open a Palliative Care Centre. Today, the Centre boasts 9 rooms, a Day Care Centre, home care program with 6 members of staff, a psychologist and social workers program. There is also a rehabilitation unit as well for out-patient services. All of this support is provided completely free of charge.

12 years support from Alarma Universal

This year Alarma Universal was awarded the Cudeca Gold Pin in appreciation and recognition of our annual sponsorship of the Calendar over the past 12 years.

It is our wish to raise awareness and to encourage other businesses here on the Costa del Sol to support this fantastic charity that it very close to our hearts. We want to make sure that Cudeca has enough funds to fulfill its promise to in-patients, that they should never go unnoticed or unattended.
